What sleep trackers can and cannot tell you.

Sleep trackers can make a night easier to describe. They cannot confirm why something happened or diagnose a condition. The most useful approach is to look for repeatable context, note how you feel, and seek professional advice when symptoms are concerning.

This comparison separates the record a platform can expose from the conclusion a person might be tempted to draw. It was checked against official platform documentation on 2 August 2026 and is designed to be reused with attribution.

Oura Ring and Oura App

Oura describes sleep periods, sleep stages, a Sleep Score and contributors including total sleep, efficiency, restfulness, REM, deep sleep, latency and timing. Availability depends on the account, connection, permissions and the night captured.

Limit: these are consumer-device estimates. They do not diagnose a disorder or explain the cause of a score, sound or awakening.

Apple Health and Apple Watch

HealthKit can contain sleep-analysis samples for in-bed time where supplied, awake, asleep unspecified, core, deep and REM, with start and end times. The user controls access and records may come from more than one authorised source.

Limit: Apple notes that detailed samples may not cover the beginning or end of an in-bed sample. Source, device, settings and coverage matter.

Android Health Connect

Health Connect can hold a sleep session with start, end and supplied sleep stages. Separately available records such as heart rate or oxygen saturation can be reviewed over the same time range when a source has written them and the user has granted permission.

Limit: Health Connect is an exchange layer. It does not mean every Android phone, app or watch records the same information.

Wear OS Health Services

Supported Wear OS devices can expose device-dependent activity, exercise and health metrics. A passive event can include falling asleep where the device and implementation support it.

Limit: Wear OS is not one uniform sleep-stage feed. SomnoRoute must describe the actual source record received instead of implying that every watch supplies the same data.

What a tracker may help you notice

Depending on the device, permissions and available data, a tracker may help organise bedtime and wake time, movement, repeated wakefulness, snoring recordings, notes and optional connected-health context. It can turn scattered information into a calmer view of what repeated nights looked like.

Why one score is not the full story

A single score, recording or alert is not a medical conclusion. Consumer sensors can miss information, classify it imperfectly, or reflect changing device fit, permissions, software and sample coverage. Compare several nights and keep the limits visible.

What a tracker cannot tell you

A tracker cannot diagnose sleep apnoea, insomnia, a breathing disorder or another medical condition. It cannot replace clinical assessment or a formal sleep test. SomnoRoute is being built for awareness and evidence organisation, not diagnosis.

Look across more than one night

Repeated timing, wakefulness, movement, snoring and notes can provide better context than one isolated night. A pattern can still be incomplete, so avoid treating it as a verdict.

Keep device context in perspective

Know the warning signs

Source transparency

Reports should identify the source of each signal, the period actually captured, missing coverage and whether the value came from the phone, a permitted wearable, connected health data or a user note.

No hidden diagnostic conversion

Sound, movement, wakefulness and connected-health context are presented as observations. They are not converted into a diagnosis, an apnoea–hypopnoea index or a claim that a condition has been confirmed or excluded.

Product evidence status

SomnoRoute is currently in private beta. Product demonstrations and redacted sample reports show the intended workflow; they are not clinical-validation results. Any future performance study will be labelled with its protocol, population, comparator and limitations.
